About 5,000 Tim Horton’s smile cookies were sold in Yellowknife last week and100 per cent of the donations will go towards a state-of-the-art Neonatal incubator warmer and bassinets for premature babies at Stanton Territorial Hospital.
This year Tim Hortons Yellowknife supported the hospital’s Pediatric and Obstetric units during Smile Cookie Week April 28 to May 4.
Patty Olexin-Lang, Executive Director at Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation, told True North FM the foundation is extremely grateful to everyone who has purchased a smile cookie and grateful to Tim Horton’s.
The foundation is hoping to raise enough money for nine Halo bassinets, which cost a total of $69,000 and one incubator. The price tag for one is $141,000 and Lang said that the hospital does not have many of them. Lang explained that these sophisticated pieces of equipment are very important for babies who need an “extra little boost” after they come into the world.
Lang said that Tim Horton’s chose the infant pediatric unit to benefit from the proceeds.
“The state-of-the-art incubator and warmer, which is designed for neonatal type of infants that need that extra care. It provides stable, thermally regulated environments that help keep premature and critically ill babies warm and safe,” said Lang.
The bassinets are height-adjustable and help moms who are recovering from birth and c-sections to more easily access their babies
“The Halo bassinets have a unique swivel design, which makes it easier for mum to access their newborn while in bed,” explained Lang.
