Aurora Chorealis Conductor “Feeling Confident” Ahead of Latest NACC Show

Yellowknife’s Northern Arts and Cultural Centre is in the final stages of preparation for their latest show!

In a joint production between Aurora Chorealis and the Fireweed Children’s Chorus, NACC will be showing the musical performance known as Seeds of Change on Saturday, April 12th, with their first presentation at 2:00pm, and a second showing at 7:00pm.

Margo Nightingale, the Conductor of Aurora Chorealis, shared what the message of this show will be.

“We have decided to reflect on things that are positive. It has been a terrible news cycle, we know a lot of people are going through a lot of personal distress as well, so our rehearsals for this concert have been one way in which we’ve been able to gather together with a sense of community, with a sense of common purpose, preparing these songs which reflect a little bit on some of the troubles but largely give us a sense of hope and inspiration.”

She adds that the music is also meant to reflect the different ways that life can change around an individual, both internally and externally.

Nightingale explains that her cast is comprised of about fifty-five adults and twenty-five children, and that the show has been in production since January. She reports that in the time they have been working together, the cast is feeling prepared and confident.

Also joining the cast are a few musicians with a bit of weight to their names, Pat Braden, Norm Glowach and Peter Workman, and Nightingale has been greatly enjoying the experience.

“It has been fantastic to work with them! They’re bringing their long history with rock n’ roll, with funk, R & B, to some of the songs we’re doing, so we are also able to bring our own singing up a notch. Their contribution always lifts us to that next level.”

Finally, Nightingale shared that for setting up the stage this time around, they are working with a new set of risers, which have both introduced new challenges, but have also presented new and interesting opportunities for how the stage should be organized.

Tickets for the event can be found on the NACC website. Nightingale reports that there should still be a few left, which may allow some guests to purchase theirs at the doors, though she encourages folks to get theirs as soon as possible!
