The Fort Providence RCMP are currently investigating a deadly shooting within the community.
The incident occurred early in the morning on Saturday, March 15th. At 12:45 am, local officers were informed that shots had been fired at a residence inside the community. When they arrived on the scene, they found two people had been injured by the gunfire, while a third was already deceased. All victims were quickly transported to the Health Centre for care.
The investigation into this matter is being lead by the Territorial RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit, who are working closely with the Office of the Chief Coroner, and the RCMP Forensic Identification Services. No arrests have been made at this time.
The police believe that this incident is an isolated matter, and that the general public is not at risk.

UPDATE: This investigation continues with help from “K” and “G” Division Forensic Identification Services as well as “G” Division Police Dog Services. Other resources are also being called in from neighbouring communities.
Both surviving victims of this incident are still in the hospital. One patient is still in serious condition, while the other has stabalized. This case is believed to be connected to the drug trade in Fort Providence. It is suspected that the suspect has fled the community, and possibly even the Territory.
