A number of NWT communities have just had their local fuel prices adjusted.
As part of the Department of Infrastructure’s Petroleum Products Program, fuel prices are being adjusted in communities that make use of key resupply programs.
In the communities of Jean Marie River, Paulatuk, Sachs Harbor, Tsiigehtchic, Ulukhaktok, and Whati, the cost of heating and motive diesel will be decreasing. These prices will be staying the same in Fort Good Hope.
Meanwhile, gasoline prices will be increasing for the communities of Fort Good Hope, Łutselk’e, Sachs Harbor, Sambaa K’e, Tsiigehtchic, Ulukhaktok and Wrigley. This increase is mainly due to the wholesale cost of fuel.
The GNWT makes these adjustments to help make up for the various costs it takes to have the muel itself transported to more remote communities throughout the year. Prices are adjusted twice per year, once after the summer barge resupply, and once after the winter road resupply. The adjustments are also made with considerations on the changing costs of petroleum products.
