The GNWT has shared their findings on a proposed set of Dental Hygienist regulations in a “What We Heard” report.
The territorial government engaged in a public engagement period from September 12th to October 14th, and invited dental hygienists, Indigenous Governments, stakeholders, and members of the public to take part.
The aim of the proposed changes is to move the Territory’s current dental regulations under the Health and Social Services Professions Act. It is believed that this change will provide a more consistent and comprehensive framework for all health services in the NWT.
Additional changes that this proposition would make include:
- The removal of the dentist supervision requirement
- A general and expanded scope category for registration
- A less restrictive general scope of practice for dental hygienists
The GNWT will continue to use the feedback gained on this matter to guide the development of the Dental Hygienist Profression Regulations.
