Several special events and classes will soon be offered at the Yellowknife Public Library.
The first event is an educational CRA Tax Workshop. This will help attendants learn how to take advantage of certain tax benefits and to avoid scams. This class will be led by special Outreach Officers from the Canada Revenue Agency. It will run on Thursday, January 16th, and will begin at Noon.
The second event is a movie night! The Yellowknife Public Library’s Film Club will behosting Classic Movie Monday on the third Monday of every month. This coming January 20th, they will be showing “Strangers on a Train,” an adaptation of a novel by Patricia Highsmith that was directed by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock. The movie will begin at 6:00, with admission and popcorn completely free of charge.
The last event being put on by the Library is called “TAILS.” Therapy Animals Involved in Literacy Skills is an event organized in collaboration with St John Ambulance. Children are invited to come down to the Library for some extra reading practice, with the twist being that they will be reading to dogs! Reading to a non-judgemental animal friend has been shown to have subtle positive effects on a child’s development, such as building their confidence and understanding of empathy.
Sessions of TAILS will be held on Saturdays from January 18th to March 15th at 10:30am and 12:00pm for twenty-five minutes each.
Registration for all of these events can be found at www.yellowknife.ca/library, or by calling the Library at 867-920-5642.
