Yellowknife Altering Business Hours for City Services during Holidays

The City of Yellowknife has shared the holiday operating hours for the various city-run services.

Most of the city’s services, garbage, compost, sewage pumpout, and water delivery would normally take place on Christmas and New Year’s Day. Instead, these services will be performed on Boxing Day January 2nd.

The delivery of Christmas trees to the Solid Waste Facility will be free of charge throughout the month of January.

For Public Transit, all busses, including YKFlex, will be out of service on Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day.

Many of the city run buildings will also be switching to temporary holiday hours. These locations include City Hall, the Public Library, the Solid Waste Facility, the Ruth Inch Memorial Pool, the Multiplex & Fieldhouse, the Yellowknife Community Arena, and the Visitor Centre. All of these locations will be closed on Christmas day, and all but the Multiplex & Fieldhouse will be closed on New Year’s Day. All other days will simply see reduced hours.

Additionally, the City will not be enforcing parking meters in the downtown area from December 23rd to January 2nd. During this time, those working in the downtown area are asked to not park adjacent to storefronts for long periods of time. This allows ease of access to businesses throughout the day. All other parking regulations will be enforced as usual, such as fire lanes, handicap stalls, and loading zones.
