Two Hay River residents arrested for drug and weapon possession

Two people in Hay River have received various charges after an RCMP investigation turned up drugs and stolen firearms on their property.

On December 6, Hay River officers were informed of an assault that occurred at a residence in Rowe’s Trailer Court. It was also reported that drugs and firearms could be found at the location.

Officers obtained a warrant to search the residence, and two suspects were arrested. One of the suspects was found to be in possession of a concealed machete and a baton. During the search, officers were able to find three different guns that were believed to have been stolen within the community. Also found in the search was a replica pistol, five grams of what is suspected to be fentanyl, around one gram of suspected crystal meth, and a small amount of illicit cannabis.

The two suspects are 38-year-old Brittany Amelie, and 31-year-old Roberto Amelia. Both are Hay River residents, and both have received the following charges:

  • Assault
  • Possession of a firearm without a licence
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Possession of a weapon obtained by crime, and
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm

Roberto has received the additional charge of Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Both suspects have been released, and are set to appear in court at a later date while the investigation continues.
