Ahead of Canadian Youth Road Safety Week, the GNWT is looking to advise new and young drivers about the dangers of risky driving behaviours.
Canadian Youth Road Safety Week is observed from October 20th to the 26th, and is a nation-wide initiative to help keep new drivers safe. It aims to warn against in engaging in troublesome behaviours such as distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding, and not wearing seatbelts.
The GNWT is urging young drivers be aware of how dangerous driving can be when not paying full attention to their surroundings. Parents and communities are also being encouraged to guide new drivers towards practicing safer habits.
The key focus areas are:
- Distracted Driving:Put your phone away and keep your eyes on the road.
- Impaired Driving:Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Speeding:Obey speed limits and adjust your speed according to road conditions.
- Seatbelt Use:Always buckle up, no matter how short the trip.
The GNWT hopes that by helping to share these ideas, Northern roadways can be made that much safer for everyone.
