Three different Yellowknife organizations have just become the shared recipients of a major grant.
The Canada Post Community Foundation is given out to charities, schools, and other community organizations across the country, and supports their efforts to improve the livelihoods of children and youths.
Among this year’s recipients are three groups from Yellowknife; the Yellowknife Playschool Association, the NWT Montessori Society, and the Sport North Federation. Together, the three groups have received a combined $15,000 to put towards their efforts.
Each organization is being given a cheque presentation event. The Yellowknife Playschool Association was given their cheque on Tuesday, September 24th. Their money will be put towards their “Stay Active in Winter” program.
The NWT Montessori Society received their cheque on Friday, September 27th. Megan Wood, the President of Montessori, shared her thoughts on receiving the donation, and what they plan to do with it.
“We’re very honoured. We feel very blessed that Canada Post would want to invest in our tiny little society, and make a more exclusive space for children. What we’re planning on doing is, we have a front yard that hasn’t been usable for kids to play on, and now we’re gonna be able to put some more inclusive equipment out there and really get that space looking and feeling good for the kids.”

Finally, the final cheque presentation for the Sport North Federation will be held on Friday, October 4th, also at the Post Office. Their grant is going towards their Chekoa sǫnàdè project: A Northern active play kit of equipment and materials inspired by Indigenous games and on the land learning.
