Dredging Work On Hold at Liard River Ferry Landings

The GNWT has cancelled some of the planned dredging work that was set to take place at the Liard River Ferry Landings later this month.

The project is aiming to improve the navigational conditions for the M.V. Lafferty Ferry while performing dockings at both landings. However, further examinations has determined that the previously scheduled dredging work is no longer necessary at this time, and is not currently needed to ensure the safe operation of the ferry.

The initial estimation of the cost of the dredging work was higher than what was initially expected, but the decision to cancel the work was based on how little it would actually impact it would have on the safe operation of the ferry.

The GNWT has stated that they are determined to making sure that ferry operations remain safe and reliable through the use of ongoing monitoring efforts and regular assessments of river conditions.
