Yellowknife RCMP recently arrested an individual during an unrelated investigation.
As soon as the suspect was aware of the police, he attempted to flee the area, and officers engaged in a brief foot chase. Officers were able to quickly arrest the suspect, where they found him to be in possession of a loaded handgun, which was determined to be stolen.
18-year-old Alen Vogel of Yellowknife has been charged with:
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Possession of a weapon obtained by crime
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Possession of a restricted firearm and ammunition with no licence
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm while knowing possession is unauthorized
- Careless use of a firearm, and
- Unsafe storage of a firearm.
Vogel has already appeared before a Justice of the Peace, and has since been remanded into custody.
