Behchoko Man Arrested after Holding Hostages

A Behchoko man has been arrested after holding two people against their will.

Police were notified of the situation after the two had escaped the man’s residence. They told police that he was armed, and that a third person was still being held.

The “G” Division Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services, and Crisis Negotiators were all called to the scene along with local officers. The suspect was contacted by negotiators and departed the residence. He was quickly taken into custody without incident.

41-year-old David Wedzin has been charged with:

  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Uttering Threats
  • Obstructing a Peace Officer, and
  • Resisting a Peace Officer

He as already appeared before two separate Justices of the Peace, and is being held in custody.
