The RCMP are informing the public that there is currently a communications disruption that is affecting 911 services, as well as some landline and long distance networks.
The full range of the disruption is not yet known, but in the event that 911 does not work, anyone who needs urgent police assistance can attempt to use their local RCMP numbers. For example, Yellowknife RCMP would be (867)669-1111, Inuvik RCMP would be (867)777-1111.
Should telecommunications services continue be disrupted, residents may be required to travel to their local detachment in person.
UPPDATE:
Northwestel has clarified that “there was an issue impacting long distance in our operating area this morning which also impacted the ability to call 911.”
The issue has now been resolved.
