The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has announced that essential workers were authorized to return to Fort Good Hope on Friday to assist with the re-entry of evacuees. An Evacuation Order and State of Local Emergency remain in effect for Fort Good Hope, but they are expected to be lifted as early as Saturday. The evacuation order was put in place three weeks ago due to wildfires.
Chief Pierrot says they will do their best to return of all individuals quickly. The Norman Wells team will work with the MACA team, to arrange flights for those evacuated from Fort Good Hope. Evacuees will be informed by the Norman Wells team as soon as flight details are finalized.
NWT Fire’s latest update indicates that the wildfire has now entered the mop-up phase, and the line next to the community is secure. Firefighters will remain active in the area to conduct mop-up operations. The fire is not out, and people may see flare-ups in the distance. However, the community is safe because there is very little forest fuel left nearby.
