Enterprise Mayor resigns after just four months in office

Enterprise’s mayor, Sandra McMaster, brought forward her resignation letter at the most recent council meeting, July 2, after serving four months in office.

Rather than holding a byelection, newly appointed and formerly Deputy Mayor Barbara will fill the seat in the interim, given that a regular election is scheduled for December.

Looking forward, Mayor Hart hopes that the council can collaborate in meeting the goals, concerns, and needs of both the residents and the hamlet.

Hart says, “We need to start rebuilding the community and, given everything that has happened, rebuild the trust of our residents in the council itself.”

Residents have experienced much devastation from the flood in May 2022, made worse by wildfires in August 2023. The fire last summer resulted in significant losses for some, while others were lucky to have lost very little. Consequently, there are varying views on the best way to proceed post-fire. Harts says the community has always been resilient, and she is committed to rekindling its spirit.

Harts was fortunate not to lose her home in the fire, but having lost her home to a flood the previous year, she can relate. She doesn’t claim to have all the answers, but she is eager to work together with the community to discover them.
