Today, a media briefing provided an update on the Fort Good Hope wildfires. Evacuees can now get some financial help from the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) through the new financial assistance program.
The Emergency Evacuation Relief Program assists individuals forced to evacuate their homes by covering housing expenses and other essentials such as gas and food. Eligible individuals aged 18 and over receive a one-time payment of $800, while each dependent under 18 is allotted $400.
The application process is straightforward. Individuals who have left their home community due to an evacuation order issued by the community government and are registered as evacuees are eligible. They must fill out an application form and may be required to present a photo ID (such as a passport or driver’s license), proof of residence in the evacuated community (like a utility bill), proof of dependents, and direct deposit information.
Application forms and all supporting documents can be sent to [email protected].
