Fire Ban In Place For South Slave Region Effective Immediately

The GNWT have enforced a Fire ban in the South Slave region of the NWT on all public & private land until May 17th.

During the ban, residents are prohibited from having open fire pits, including those in barrels or pits. Also banned is the use of fireworks, sky lanterns, exploding targets or flare style bear bangers, unless in an active wildlife emergency.

Although the ban is in place, Barbeques and Stoves are still allowed to be used as long as it’s enclosed propane or Briquette style and fire used to exercise Indigenous rights are exempt.
NWT Fire wants everyone to do their part and to report violations of the fire ban by calling 1-877-NWT-FIRE (698-3473)
