The Dettah Ice Road is set for an early closure on Tuesday.

The GNWT Department of Infrastructure says warm weather striking Yellowknife over the last few days caused a melt creating slushy conditions that has played heavily in deciding to close the road. Run-off is also being cited as a reason for the early closure and poor conditions.
The 20-year average closing time for the road has been April 16th; this comes about a week earlier than usual. Last year, the road was closed on the 10th of April.
