Yellowknife Residents Encouraged to Take Part in Annual Holiday Lights Contest

Residents across Yellowknife will once again have an opportunity to express their holiday cheer with this season’s Annual Holiday Lights Competition.

For participating homes, note that there are no specific categories for the Holiday Lights Competition. To participate, residents are asked to leave their lights on from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. from December 11th to January 7th. From December 11-15, residents and NUY staff will nominate the houses they would like to see in the competition by sending the address and a photo of the home to [email protected]. These houses will be included on a virtual map that residents can use as a guide as they check out the lights around town. The nomination deadline is December 15, at 11:59 p.m.

From the selection of nominated homes, residents can vote on their favourite light display from December 16th, to January 7th. The public can vote for more than one home, and there are two different ways to vote. To vote via Facebook, got to the City of Yellowknife page and look out for an album with all the nominated homes and place your vote by liking the photo of your top choices. Residents can also vote through an online voting form. The link for the online voting form as well as the virtual map mentioned above will be published on the City’s website on December 16th.

The top 5 festive homes will be announced on January 8th. Each winner will receive a $100 prize courtesy of Northland Utilities, along with a City of Yellowknife Holiday Lights Top 5 plaque for display.
