Slightly warmer temperatures hit the South Slave today as the Town of Hay River continues its re-entry plans.
According to NWT Fire, western winds are expected to shift south overnight with moderate humidity in the region which may lead to “moderate to high” fire activity with possible growth to the east.
Officials say strong west winds on Saturday alongside warm dry conditions could cause significant fire growth to the east.
NWT Fire says anyone returning to KFN and Hay River should prepare to see significant fire activity to the east of the river including large plumes of smoke.
Despite the high activity, NWT Fire is reminding residents the situation is no less safe as work continues to be completed securing the Hay River Corridor and First Nation.
