As the diamond capital continues to feel the heat this wildfire season, cool temperatures and favourable conditions have slowed fire growth outside the city.
According to NWT Fire, around 4mm of rain fell at the nearest weather station to the Yellowknife wildfire, less than 2mm nearest to the Ingraham Trail fire, and less than 1mm nearest to the blaze outside Dettah.
NWT Fire says not all areas of the fire have received precipitation but the fire has been observed to be quiet for the most part.
Despite the relief, NWT Fire says the conditions are not enough to keep the situation at bay for long, and threat to the area remains.
Infrared scanning is scheduled to be completed over the weekend to give crews a stronger understanding of the condition of the fires, and whether a direct attack can be worthwhile and successful.
