The wildfire situation in Hay River has changed quickly and officials now report the blaze has been blown within 10km of the community due to strong winds.
It is anticipated the fire will likely reach Hay River this evening.
According to an update, crews that were in the path of the fire are pulling off for their own safety and have begun repositioning to assist in other areas.
A quick strike team from Alberta has been deployed, and they are laying fire retardant down to stop the spread.
Hay River says sprinklers and structure protections are in place and turned on. Other operations are set to continue work as conditions allow.
