Great Slave Animal Hospital postpones non-emergent surgeries

Great Slave Animal Hospital has made the decision to postpone any ‘non-emergent’ surgeries following the evacuation alert issued for the hospital’s area.

According to the hospital, surgeries such as spay/neutering, non-concerning lump removal, dental cleaning are categorized as non-emergent and no new appointments will be accepted during the alert.

The hospital will remain open for emergency services as long as the evacuation status remains the same; however, animals will not be hospitalized overnight.

“If an animal comes in with say a major laceration or something like that, of course we would take care of them,” a Great Slave Animal Hospital representative tells MyTrueNorthNow.

Additionally, the hospital is not accepting any animals from northern communities at this time.

“We cannot be responsible for evacuating those animals,” the hospital says.
