Evacuation Alert will ‘likely be upgraded’ to order by Thursday, controlled burns delayed due to winds

Wildfires surrounding the capital continue to burn strong near the Ingraham Trail.

The fire nearing the Ingraham Trail remains out of control and was last mapped at around 45,000 hectares.

According to NWT Fire, the Evacuation Alert for north Prelude, north Prosperous, and River Lake was downgraded to give cabin owners a chance to run their sprinklers; however, the alert will likely be upgraded to an order no later than Thursday.

“Residents of the Ingraham Trail are not at immediate threat,” NWT Fire says.

NWT Fire adds that ‘numerous’ cabins near Duncan Lake, Neck Lake, and Island Lake may be at risk as the flames have reached the shores of those areas.

As part of firefighting efforts, NWT Fire has planned ignition operations for the area, but windy conditions have made it unsafe to complete these burns at this time.

Three structures have been confirmed lost due to the wildfire.
