The wildfire between Yellowknife and Behchokǫ̀ remains out of control and was last mapped at 136,109 hectares burned and the blaze has reached Boundary Creek and now stands 20km northwest from the city at its closest point.
According to NWT Fire, the blaze moved approximately 7km to the east since the last update. The fire is not expected to reach Yellowknife in the coming days; however, NWT Fire says risk to the City and N’Dilo has risen since yesterday.
The evacuation order put in place for cabins and homes between kilometre marker 284 and 320 on Highway 3 remains.
NWT Fire says significant fire behaviour is expected today, with visible smoke and falling ash likely in Yellowknife, N’Dilo, and Dettah.
Air Crews say they have been limited due to smoke density, but missions are scheduled to the east of the fire throughout the day as visibility allows.
