NWT Fire has announced Jean Marie River has been placed on an evacuation order as of 1:40pm yesterday.
According to NWT Fire, all evacuees have left the community and residents have left via flights leaving from Fort Simpson.
NWT Fire says the blaze is suspected to be person caused, approximately 400 hectares in size, and 10 km south of Jean Marie River.
“A confluence of wind from both the west and the north are centering fire activity around the community,” NWT Fire says.
NWT Fire says one helicopter and heavy equipment is being brought in by crews to action the fire.
