Good news for Dettah as the blaze 29km southeast of the community has shifted growth to the east, away from the settlement.
An ignition operation is being prepared and planned to begin today as winds and weather are expected to be favourable.
“The intent is to burn off forest fuel and head off the fire’s growth towards Dettah and the Ingraham Trail and build long-term protections for a continuing fire season,” NWT Fire says.
As a result, any cabin owners near Jennejohn Lake, Mason Lake, Defeat Lake, and any others between Jennejohn and south towards the southern shore of Defeat Lake are asked to leave their residences immediately.
According to NWT Fire, Dettah, N’Dilo, Yellowknife, and the Ingraham Trail are not currently at risk.
