Yellowknife/Behchokǫ̀ fire breaches lines, evacuation alert issued for Boundary Creek

The wildfire between Yellowknife and Behchokǫ̀ remain out of control and was last mapped at 136,109 hectares burned.

Last night, crews reported a minor breach in the lines to the east of the fire, south of Highway 3 due to severe winds coming from the west.

As a result, NWT Fire has issued an evacuation alert for anyone between kilometre markers 307 and 320 near Boundary Creek.

“This is a precaution. Yellowknife, N’Dilo, and Dettah are not currently at risk,” NWT Fire says.

No additional losses have been reported despite several rumours on the contrary circulating around the City.

Air Tankers and helicopters are now working to maintain lines after the breach as well as a controlled ignition operation along Highway 3.
