As wildfire season continues in the NWT, a new blaze has kicked up 36km southeast of Dettah.
In their most recent report, NWT Fire reports the flames currently stand at 23,347 hectares burned around 3.5km southwest of Hearne Lake.
According to NWT Fire, dry, windy conditions have cause significant growth to the northwest, but the flames slowed down yesterday due to lack of fuels in the area.
NWT Fire says Dettah, N’Dilo, and Yellowknife are not currently at risk; however, extreme smoke should be expected and has limited flight ability above the area.
Dettah and YKDFN say they have been proactive in setting up sprinkler lines and structure protection in the community and NWT Fire says they will collaborate with the community on protection efforts moving forward.
