Following a call for service on August 4th, 2023, in the early hours of the morning in Behchokǫ̀, members of the RCMP attended a residence in the community and provided first aid to a male with serious injuries.
EMS quickly transported the 17-year-old victim to the local Health Centre, then to Stanton where the young man was declared deceased.
After an investigation by the RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit, 24-year-old Zakk Lafferty has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder in relation to the homicide.
Lafferty appeared before a Justice of the Peace the day after the incident and was taken into custody to appear in court on August 8th.
