Beginning July 17, 2023, the order placing the community of Tsiigehtchic under Administration is in effect and the order will remain in effect until it is repealed at a later date.
According to Shane Thompson, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), having an administrator in place is an important step to support the community as it transitions into a Hamlet.
“MACA is happy to assist in the transition that was voted for by residents, and we look forward to having a new Hamlet Council in place as soon as possible,” Minister Thompson says.
The order appoints Grant Scott as Municipal Administrator and relieves the Mayor and all members of council of their duties.
MACA says they will work closely with Scott to ensure the community goes through a successful transition from a Charter Community Government to a Hamlet.
When the community transitions, two separate governments will take over: a Hamlet Council and a Band Council.
