The Town of Hay River says due to predicted high winds and rapid direction changes, it is unsafe for residents to return to Hay River.
The road leading into town is blocked and no amenities or health services are available in the community.
Fire crews have been deployed and are operating in the municipality.
“There were a few flare ups last night that Hay River Fire Department responded to, but there has been no impact to any Hay River buildings or homes.” The Town of Hay River shared on social media.
Police are currently monitoring the community to ensure all residents have been safely evacuated and not returning.
