Twenty-one young students and apprentices from across the territory will represent the NWT at a national Skills Canada competition May 28th and 29th.

Competitors hail from across the territory, including Yellowknife, Inuvik, Hay River, and Fort Simpson. The 21 NWT students will compete against 550 other Canadians in trades and technology fields including cooking, hairstyling, plumbing and public speaking.
The national competition, held on May 28th and 29th in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is an ‘Olympic-style’ contest which brings participants from across the country to compete in specific trades or technology areas. The goal of the organization, says Skills Canada NWT’s executive director Ali Kincaid, is to encourage young people to consider careers in skilled trades and technology and work on closing the gap of skilled trades in the NWT.
