Aspiring entrepreneurs are once again invited to submit their business idea to Win Your Space YK for a chance to win one year of free leased space in downtown Yellowknife.
Now in its third year, Win Your Space YK is a competition “aimed at inspiring Yellowknifers to start or expand their business” while preparing them with business development workshops, providing access to useful network connections and resources, as well as revitalizing the downtown area.
Mayor Alty said that the city is excited to offer this opportunity once again which supports Council’s priorities of growing and diversifying Yellowknife’s economy.
“We encourage anyone who has ever dreamed of starting a business to apply by submitting a short video describing their business idea. No solid plan is required at this time; all you need is an idea.”
A few stats given by the city indicate that since it’s inception in 2017, over 20 entrepreneurs have benefited from the free business development workshops and that 5 finalists have opened a business in downtown Yellowknife as a result of the competition. Also noted was that 80% of semi-finalists rated the workshops as the number one benefit of the program, and all semi-finalists said Win Your Space YK supported the development of their business idea.
