Thousands raised for families of Air Tindi pilots

Fundraising efforts for the two Air Tindi pilots killed in a crash outside Whati on January 30th have gathered over $27,000 in a matter of days.

A Gofundme campaign for Will Hayworth started Monday, February 4th raised $5,090 in six hours. A campaign on the same site for Zach McKillop has raised $22,805 in three days.

“Those who had the pleasure to know Zach will tell you that he loved music, always had a witty comeback and regularly spent time outdoors “splorin,”” the fundraising page dedicated to McKillop states. “Zach loved his job as a pilot for Air Tindi.”

McKillop passed away on the day of his 28th birthday, according to the page dedicated to him. He began as a dispatcher with Air Tindi in 2016, he was later promoted to First Officer on the King Air 200 aircraft.

Both pages state money will go to the loved ones of Hayworth and McKillop, to help with costs associated with funerals and other needs.

A Transportation Safety Board investigation is ongoing at the site of the crash, between Whati and Behchoko.
