World Snow Day has returned for it’s 7th year. Activities will run throughout the day put on by different organizations in the Yellowknife community, all to help promote activeness in the Winter, to celebrate the snow and the great outdoors. World Snow Day will be celebrated on Sunday, January 20th with different events running from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. throughout the city. The different organizations taking part this year includes the Yellowknife Ski Club, the Yellowknife Ultimate Club, YK Beach Volleyball, Ecology North, the Great Slave Snowmobile Association and the Ragged Riders Snowsports Society.
Mayor Rebecca Alty says the event is a group effort between the city and different organizations in Yellowknife.
“As a winter city, I think it is one of those thing that we really want to highlight, all the great things that we can do in the winter. So it’s great to have community groups join on and host these special events.”
Alty says the event is about celebrating snow and seeing different fun activities that you can do in the Winter.
“January can be a little chilly and definitely a little dark, so we’re trying to encourage folks to come out, dress warm and really once you start moving around with these snow activities, I think you will barely notice the cold if it is a chilly day.”
All of the events throughout the day is free to participate in. Here is the schedule for the day.
