Missing teen reportedly traced but police operation continues

A 14-year-old reported missing by her Yellowknife family has reportedly been traced to Edmonton – but police say the investigation remains open and they have not confirmed her location, nor her well-being.

On Monday, police asked for the public’s help in finding Saidee Gosselin, saying she had last been seen on February 27 in Yellowknife. It was believed she may have travelled to Edmonton.

Multiple sources have since suggested Gosselin is in the Alberta city.

Madison Anthony – listed on Facebook as a friend of Gosselin – wrote on Moose FM’s Facebook page to say: “She’s in Edmonton, she replied to my message.”

Separately, the CBC reported Gosselin had been in touch to confirm she is “safe and in Edmonton”, and her mother had spoken to her by phone. CBC journalists say they were able to verify Gosselin’s identity.

However, RCMP say their investigation continues in spite of those reports as they have yet to verify Gosselin’s whereabouts and that she is safe.

Police stress they would like the public to continue supplying any information regarding Gosselin’s location.

Meanwhile, a message purportedly from Gosselin on the YK Trader website has been uncovered.

Posted on February 20, the message reads: “I was wondering if anyone’s planning on driving to Edmonton.

“If so please gimme a shout. I’m willing to pay half gas or we can negotiate prices to catch a ride back.

“I originally came to visit my family for Christmas, now I’m stranded here. If anyone can help me out I’d really appreciate it.”

Though the message ends with her name, Moose FM has not been able to confirm Gosselin is the post’s author.
