Jonathan Karl Bruenig, 34, was arrested by the ICE Unit on Jan. 23.

A Grande Prairie man is facing charges of child exploitation after allegedly luring and trying to sexually assault a teenage boy.

Jonathan Karl Bruenig, 34, was arrested on January 23, 2018; however, the suspect’s name will be unfamiliar to suspected victims. ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit alleges that Bruenig used multiple personas, often posing as a teenage girl online, in order to lure teenage boys.

Police have identified two victims. They say it’s possible other victims may be located around the country, including Alberta, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories. They believe the suspect’s reach may extend as far as Australia.

Bruenig has lived in the Grande Prairie and Kelowna areas, and has also been involved with a number of junior hockey teams.

ICE is also looking to identify and speak with potential victims. Anyone with information about this investigation is encouraged to call 780-509-3363 or submit information anonymously at cybertip.ca.
