Toy Drive a growing tradition in the North

Yesterday, Northwestel and the Yellowknife Salvation Army began their annual Toy Drive.

The launching event featured an appearance from Yellowknife Mayor Mark Heyck, as well as Darlene Hardy from the Salvation Army and Northwestel Vice President of Business Markets Paul Gillard.

Gillard says the toys are among the many events happening this season for Northwestel.

People in the office are going way beyond expectations this season,” says Gillard. “We’re collecting food, we’re collecting clothes – people are doing United Way programs. It’s the season of giving, and that’s maybe best shown with the Toy Drive.

Gillard says the Drive has been a growing in Yellowknife and across the North.

We’ve been doing this for about 7 years now. We’ve seen growth each year. Last year alone, there was over 500 toys donated, which helped roughly 300 children. We’re hoping for that, if not more.

The Toy Drive ends next month on December 14th.

You can donate toys by visiting any Northwestel retail store across the 3 Territories.
