The Northwest Territories Geological Survey has a new strategic plan that will run until 2022.
The 5-year plan includes changes to show the Government of the Northwest Territories’ post-Devolution jurisdiction over the NWT lands and resources.
The point of plan is to gather new, detailed information on mining and energy exploration and how to address the effects of climate change.
Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment, Wally Schumann, says that the NWT Geological Survey has provided data that’s responsible for development of the territories’ mineral and energy resources:
“In recent years, it has experienced a growing demand for science-based information to address issues of land management, infrastructure development, environmental stewardship, and climate change adaptions. This plan will position the Geological Survey to meet these expanded needs; support the sustainable, responsible development of our resources and position our territory for economic growth.”
You will be able to see the research done by the Survey at the annual Yellowknife Geoscience Forum in November.
