City calling for artists to jazz up control boxes in Yellowknife

Transformers and traffic light control boxes aren’t exactly the most glamorous. If you’re an artist, the City of Yellowknife is looking for you to spruce things up.

For the second year in a row, the city is calling for participants in a public art initiative aimed at turning control boxes into works of art.

Painters, graphic artists, and photographers are among just some of the artists the city is seeking pitches from to participate in the project. They hope to decorate 15 boxes in total.

Last year, 10 artists and a grade 6 class from St. Joseph School transformed boxes downtown.

Calls for proposals are due to the city by the end of May. Successful applicants will have until August 15 to complete their projects.

You can find more information on the city’s website.
