Originally hailing from Nova Scotia, The Trews have been nominated for five Juno Awards since releasing their first studio album in 2003.

The band started their career with the name One I’d Trouser before changing their name to Trouser and eventually The Trews.

While the band has yet to win a Juno, they have claimed a number of East Coast Music and Independent Music awards.

The Trews will perform alongside a number of other Canadian acts in Yellowknife, including Dallas Smith, Classified and Trooper.

From now until May 16, tickets will cost $75 for a day pass and $129 for the whole weekend (Friday and Saturday). After that, tickets will cost $85 for a day and $139 for the weekend.

Children aged 12 and under get in free.

Organizer Justin Elliott says the festival ‘definitely has legs to stand on’ and that previous shows have been a big success down south.

On top of live music, there will also be a beer garden for adults and carnival rides for younger audience members.

There should be a good selection of food, too. Elliott says organizers plan on flying in fresh seafood to complement some of the city’s local food vendors.

“We all know that the best parties just happen,” read an excerpt on the festival’s website. “In Newfoundland, this usually happens in the kitchen and if too many friends show up, you get moved to outside, hence the Garden.”
