Large quantity of alcohol seized near Fort McPherson

A total of 184 bottles and cans of alcohol were seized by RCMP near Fort McPherson during a traffic check stop last Friday.

The stop was on the Dempster Highway north of Fort McPherson, which is a community with restrictions on the quantity of alcohol a person may possess.

No charges have been laid after three vehicles had liquor seized:

  • 78 bottles of vodka (375 ml each)
  • Six bottles of vodka (1.6 litre each)
  • One bottle of liquor (750 ml)
  • 99 cans of beer (355 ml)

“Bootlegging has been an issue in the community and seizures of alcohol help curtail problems that come along with the abuse of alcohol,” read an RCMP press release.

If you have any information on this incident or any suspicious activity, contact the Ft McPherson RCMP at 867-587-1111 or through Crimestoppers online at www.nwtnutips.com.
