Twitter Reaction: East Coast Garden Party https://www.mytruenorthnow.com/24349/news/yellowknife-news/twitter-reaction-east-coast-garden-party/ Mon, 19 Jun 2017 06:25:42 +0000 http://www.myyellowknifenow.com/?p=24349

The East Coast Garden Party music festival took over Yellowknife this past weekend.

Moose FM was there to enjoy all of the shows. Godson and the Who Made Who kicked off the Friday night outing with a bang. The Trews, Classified, Trooper and Dallas Smith were all massive hits with the crowd, with the Derina Harvey Band providing foot-stomping music for both nights.

Some festival goers even took to Twitter to voice their excitement over some of their favourite moments:

There was this fan who managed to poke fun at how fascinated Classified was with the Midnight Sun:

A little bit of an earworm syndrome for this Derina Harvey fan:

Derina Harvey tweeted out how great it was to play with Trooper, a Canadian classic:

Trooper summed up how great the Festival turnout was, rain AND shine:

Yellowknife duo wins Juno for best Indigenous album https://www.mytruenorthnow.com/22605/news/yellowknife-news/yellowknife-duo-wins-juno-for-best-indigenous-album/ Sun, 02 Apr 2017 22:54:20 +0000 http://www.myyellowknifenow.com/?p=22605

Yellowknife's Quantum Tangle won the Juno award for best Indigenous music album of the year during a ceremony in Ottawa on Saturday.

RELATED: 'I'm in disbelief': Yellowknife duo nominated for 2017 Juno award

The group, which consists of Grey Gritt and Tiffany Ayalik, was nominated for its album Tiny Hands. It was the duo's first Juno nomination.

Both Gritt and Ayalik have deep roots in Yellowknife.

Ayalik, who is Inuit, was born in the city, while Gritt, who’s Oji-Métis, has lived and performed in Yellowknife for years now.

Their sound is often described as unique since it blends two very different styles of music, meshing Ayalik’s traditional Inuit song and dance with soulful blues from Gritt.

Quantum Tangle beat out four other acts to win the award.

With a tour scheduled for Europe, the duo is showing no signs of slowing down. They also plan on dropping another studio album later this year.
