This is part of $3.8 B strategy” to “protect and restore” habitats and find ways for industrial strategies to “complement” conservation announced Tuesday. Indigenous and local leaders have been calling on the feds and provincial and territorial governments to take more measures to clean up industrial wastes of the region including the Peace-Athabasca waterways of Treaty 8.

Testing confirms another Yellowknife school has elevated copper in water and lead

Testing shows that another school in the city of Yellowknife has elevated levels of lead and testing also confirmed elevated levels of copper present in water from some of its drinking taps. Last week, testing showed that three Yellowknife area school buildings and a school in Behchokǫ̀ showed elevated levels of both copper and lead in water from some drinking water fixtures.

Housing NWT announces no-smoking policy

Drivers advised of closures for Edzo-Rae Ice Road and Hwy 1

Highway 1 is closed to drivers as of Wednesday morning and the Edzo-Rae Ice Road will see a planned seasonal closure this afternoon. The planned closure was announced earlier this week and is part of seasonal changes that will also see the Dettah Ice Road close later this month.
