New MLAs Meet with Indigenous Leaders to Set Priorities

Indigenous Leaders from across the Northwest Territories and Members of the 20th Legislative Assembly met over two days to build relationships and discuss the priorities of Indigenous Governments. The two-day meeting was held in a collaborative spirit to discuss issues for the purpose of informing and helping define the 20th Legislative Assembly priorities for the next four years.

Recognizing the importance of mutual respect and understanding, leaders discussed the importance of government-to-government working relationships, as a basis for addressing the diverse needs of all NWT communities and ensuring a harmonious and equitable future for all residents of the Northwest Territories.

Leaders discussed a wide range of topics. These included social and economic challenges and opportunities throughout the Northwest Territories. Respecting perspectives and priorities of each government requires that Indigenous Governments and Members of the Legislative Assembly work together. Collaboration between all governments can promote stronger outcomes for the health of our communities, economy, lands, and for all territorial residents.
