Bob McLeod re-elected, ‘prepared to stand for premier again’

Bob McLeod told Moose FM he will ‘test the water’ for a second term as premier after being re-elected as the MLA for Yellowknife South.

McLeod had 485 votes while closest rival Nigit’stil Norbert had 179 votes. Third-placed Sam Roland, son of former NWT Premier Floyd Roland, had 29.

“I’m feeling pretty good. We ran a good campaign,” the victorious McLeod told Moose FM.

“I listened to the voters. I knew that the economy and the cost of living were the main concerns.

“With a new Liberal government prepared to provide some significant investment – not only in infrastructure but also in reducing the cost of living, and also in getting back into housing – I thought we would work very hard to take advantage of that.

“We’re a small territory. We need to work with our federal government partners, our Aboriginal governments and municipal governments at every level.”

During the campaign, McLeod dismissed reports he wanted a second term as premier, saying they had been ‘fabricated’.

However, following his victory, he told Moose FM: “I’ll be interested. I’ll test the water and see if I can get enough support. I’ll be prepared to stand for premier again.”
