Avens holds fundraiser to bring Christmas to nearly 60 seniors

Avens – A Community for Seniors is looking to raise money to give its residents a Christmas.

The community organization will be holding a silent auction and bake sale in the lower level of Centre Square Mall over the next two days.

“People are welcome to come and bid on some fantastic items or grab a sweet treat to nibble on,” said Rebecca Alty, director of communications and community development with Avens.

“With the money we raise, we’re looking to purchase Christmas gifts and hold Christmas celebrations at Avens for the residents.

“Avens is home to over 57 residents so we want to bring the holiday cheer home for the holidays.”

Alty says silent auction items include a 20-minute helicopter ride around Yellowknife courtesy of Great Slave Helicopters, carvings, paintings, clothing from Erasmus Apparel and gift bags among other prizes.

The fundraiser will take place on Friday and Saturday between 10am and 4pm, across from the library elevator.
