Provincial labour federations demand inquiry into missing Aboriginal women

Yellowknife, NWT – Presidents of Canada’s provincial labour federations are joining growing demands for government action to address the missing and murdered Aboriginal women crisis.

That’s according to a press release issued by the Northern Territories Federation of Labour.

Some leaders have called the issue a national emergency that demands immediate action from federal and provincial governments.

Earlier this summer, the R.C.M.P revealed that nearly 1,200 Aboriginal women had either been killed or gone missing since 1980.

Canada’s Premiers met with First Nations leaders in Charlottetown this week where the idea of a national public inquiry took centre stage once again.
